AMC 10 Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility for the AMC 10 is determined by a student's grade level and age. These rules are set by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) to ensure a fair competition.
Who Can Participate
- Grade Level
- Grade 10 or below
- Age Limit
- Under 17.5 years on the day of the exam
- Schooling
- Enrolled in a high school or equivalent
- Location
- US and international students may participate
- Higher Exams

Registration and Special Cases
Students must register through their school or a registered contest manager. Home-schooled students or those whose schools do not participate can find nearby participating institutions through the MAA website. The grade and age criteria are strict; a student in grade 11, for example, cannot take the AMC 10 even if they meet the age requirement. Official rules are published annually by the MAA.
