Qualifying and Invitations
The main path to BMO Round 1 is by achieving a score above a certain threshold in the Senior Mathematical Challenge. The UKMT announces this threshold each year after the SMC is marked. A number of discretionary places are also available for younger students or those who just missed the qualifying score; teachers can nominate these students. Entry to BMO Round 2 is strictly by invitation to the top-scoring students in Round 1.
