JEE Main Syllabus
The JEE Main syllabus is based on the topics covered in Class 11 and 12 across major national and state school boards. The exam has separate papers for B.E./B.Tech, B.Arch, and B.Plan.
Focus on Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech)
The most common paper is for admission to B.E. and B.Tech programs, which tests Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The syllabus for Paper 2A (B.Arch) and Paper 2B (B.Plan) includes Mathematics and General Aptitude, with additional sections on Drawing and Planning, respectively. The following sections detail the core topics for Paper 1, as specified by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Physics
- Mechanics Covers kinematics, laws of motion, work, energy, power, rotational motion, and gravitation.
- Electrodynamics Includes electric charges, fields, potential, capacitance, current electricity, and magnetic effects.
- Optics Focuses on reflection, refraction, lenses, prisms, and wave optics phenomena like interference.
- Thermodynamics Tests concepts of thermal properties of matter, heat transfer, and the laws of thermodynamics.
- Modern Physics Questions on dual nature of matter, atoms, nuclei, and basic semiconductor electronics.
Chemistry
- Physical Chemistry Includes atomic structure, chemical bonding, equilibrium, kinetics, and solutions.
- Inorganic Chemistry Covers classification of elements, p, d, and f block elements, and coordination compounds.
- Organic Chemistry Focuses on purification, nomenclature, hydrocarbons, and compounds containing oxygen and nitrogen.
- Chemistry in Everyday Life Questions on polymers, biomolecules, and the application of chemicals in medicine and food.
Mathematics
- Algebra Includes complex numbers, quadratic equations, matrices, determinants, and permutations.
- Calculus Covers limits, continuity, differentiation, integration, and differential equations.
- Coordinate Geometry Questions on straight lines, circles, conic sections (parabola, ellipse, hyperbola).
- Vector and 3D Geometry Focuses on vectors, dot and cross products, straight lines, and planes in space.
- Trigonometry Tests identities, equations, inverse trigonometric functions, and properties of triangles.
