Written solution

For x ∈ (0, π), the equation sin x + 2sin 2x - sin 3x = 3 has

Given: x∈(0,π),sin⁡x+2sin⁡2x−sin⁡3x=3\text{Given: } x \in (0,\pi), \quad \sin x + 2\sin 2x - \sin 3x = 3

To find: number of solutions for x∈(0,π)\text{To find: number of solutions for } x \in (0,\pi)

Options: infinite, 3, 1, none\text{Options: infinite},\ 3,\ 1,\ \text{none}

sin⁡2x=2sin⁡xcos⁡x\sin 2x = 2\sin x\cos x

sin⁡3x=sin⁡x(4cos⁡2x−1)\sin 3x = \sin x\left(4\cos^{2}x-1\right)

LHS=sin⁡x+4sin⁡xcos⁡x−sin⁡x(4cos⁡2x−1)\text{LHS} = \sin x + 4\sin x\cos x - \sin x\left(4\cos^{2}x-1\right)

=sin⁡x(1+4cos⁡x−4cos⁡2x+1)= \sin x\left(1 + 4\cos x - 4\cos^{2}x + 1\right)

=sin⁡x(2+4cos⁡x−4cos⁡2x)= \sin x\left(2 + 4\cos x - 4\cos^{2}x\right)

2+4cos⁡x−4cos⁡2x=3−4(cos⁡x−12)22 + 4\cos x - 4\cos^{2}x = 3 - 4\left(\cos x-\frac{1}{2}\right)^{2}

LHS=3sin⁡x−4sin⁡x(cos⁡x−12)2\text{LHS} = 3\sin x - 4\sin x\left(\cos x-\frac{1}{2}\right)^{2}

sin⁡x>0,(cos⁡x−12)2≥0\sin x > 0, \quad \left(\cos x-\frac{1}{2}\right)^{2} \geq 0

LHS≤3sin⁡x≤3\text{LHS} \leq 3\sin x \leq 3

Equality would need sin⁡x=1 and cos⁡x=12\text{Equality would need } \sin x = 1 \ \text{and} \ \cos x = \frac{1}{2}

impossible⇒LHS<3\text{impossible} \Rightarrow \text{LHS} < 3

x=π2: LHS=1+0+1=2<3x = \frac{\pi}{2}: \ \text{LHS} = 1 + 0 + 1 = 2 < 3

sin⁡x+2sin⁡2x−sin⁡3x=3⇒no solution\sin x + 2\sin 2x - \sin 3x = 3 \Rightarrow \text{no solution}

(4) no solution\text{(4) no solution}
