Common Mistakes in JEE Advanced
Success in JEE Advanced often depends on avoiding common pitfalls that can cost valuable marks. These errors are typically related to misinterpretation of questions and calculation oversights, not just a lack of knowledge.
Question-Specific Errors
- Ignoring partial and negative marking in multiple-correct questions. Attempt a multiple-correct question only if you are certain about at least one option, to avoid penalties.
- Misreading units or dimensions in Physics problems. Always check if all quantities are in SI units before calculation, and verify the final answer's dimension.
- Making assumptions not stated in the question. Solve the problem using only the information given. If a variable seems missing, re-read to see if it can be derived.
- Overlooking special cases or constraints in Mathematics. Always check for boundary conditions like denominators being non-zero or expressions under square roots being non-negative.
- Confusing similar-sounding reagents or reaction names in Chemistry. Create a chart of named reactions and reagents with their specific functions and practice them regularly.
- Spending too much time on a single difficult question. Set a time limit for each question. If you are stuck, mark it for review and move on to the next one.
