JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria
To appear for JEE Advanced, candidates must first qualify through JEE Main and meet several other criteria set by the Joint Admission Board (JAB). These criteria relate to age, previous attempts, and academic performance.
Eligibility at a Glance
- JEE Main Performance
- Must be among the top qualifying candidates in JEE Main.
- Age Limit
- There is an age limit, with relaxations for reserved categories.
- Number of Attempts
- A candidate can attempt JEE Advanced a maximum of two times in two consecutive years.
- Class 12th Exam
- Must have appeared for the Class 12 (or equivalent) exam for the first time in either the current or previous year.
- Previous IIT Admission
- Must not have been admitted to an IIT previously through JEE Advanced.
Class 12th Percentage Requirement
In addition to the other criteria, admission to an IIT requires a candidate to meet a performance requirement in their Class 12 board exams. This is either securing a minimum aggregate percentage or being within the top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective board. The specific rules are published annually by the conducting body, so candidates must check the official information bulletin for the year they are appearing.
